{"id":4,"date":"2008-02-17T11:59:21","date_gmt":"2008-02-17T12:59:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.robheaton.co.uk\/?p=4"},"modified":"2008-02-17T20:03:18","modified_gmt":"2008-02-17T21:03:18","slug":"home-storage-multimedia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.robheaton.co.uk\/?p=4","title":{"rendered":"\/home storage &#038; multimedia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Yet another day is upon us, and it&#8217;s another day to spend tinkering with Ubuntu on the eee!<\/p>\n<p>After reading many a discussion on the <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.eeeuser.com\">eee user forums<\/a> I decided to mount my 8GB SDHC card as my \/home folder. This gives me more personal storage &amp; saves disk writes to the internal SSD, As I already had Ubuntu installed, I followed this post here &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/forum.eeeuser.com\/viewtopic.php?id=7957\">Mount SDHC as \/home<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So far everything has worked perfectly, and i&#8217;ve had no umount problems that some users have encountered. All I can do is monitor it for the next few days, but so far&#8230; so good!!<\/p>\n<p>The next thing I wanted to do was intall the Skype2 beta (With video support) and also install so multimedia codecs, There is a software repo setup just for this. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.medibuntu.org\">Medibuntu<\/a>, I simply followed the <a href=\"https:\/\/help.ubuntu.com\/community\/Medibuntu\">repository how-to<\/a> and i was all set.<\/p>\n<p>I installed the following packages;<br \/>\nacroread &#8211; Adobe Acrobate Reader<br \/>\nskype &#8211; Skype Internet Telephony<br \/>\nw32codecs &#8211; Video &amp; Audio codecs, such as windows media<br \/>\nnon-free-codecs &#8211; Not too sure whats in this one, but figured it couldn&#8217;t hurt!!<\/p>\n<p>For a full list of available packages from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.medibuntu.org\">Medibuntu<\/a> have a look at their packages page available here &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.medibuntu.org\/packages.php\">Medibuntu packages<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Yet another day is upon us, and it&#8217;s another day to spend tinkering with Ubuntu on the eee!
