Indeed seems a bug creeping inside your Einstein; but, have you checked any other programs?. If there's something wrong with the hardware, you must be consistently finding this behaviour everywhere.

Try to reflow all the contacts related to these switches, sometimes cold solder joints could cause havoc.

I'm still running with the original drives but I know they sooner or later will fail. Usually the belt-less units are robust but when they stop reading it's a PITA. Not only a good head cleaning is a must, think about replacing all the capacitors. The 256 has a EME-150 drive, used in some CPC models...

You need to:

1) Desolder the switch
2) Pull apart the mechanism with a flat screwdriver. Be gentle!

This keyboard can be fixed 99% of the time...
