Re: Stuff on eBay

This is very interesting. I too have found nothing as yet on Scriptomatic, but I'll keep looking. So without examining the code in the MOS ROM, it's going to be very difficult to identify exactly how this MOS is different. It does look as if the usual MOS ROM itself has been patched. 'SE' may stand ...

Re: Speculator

Very impressed to see that you've implemented drive mapping so the Silicon Disc can be configured as Drive 0. "Provision has been made in the silicon disc ROM for logical (DOS) disc drive to physical (MOS) disc drive mapping. The routine that accomplishes this is the patched DOS drive select routin...

Re: Speculator

A very warm welcome to the Forum, Tony. Please add me to the list for both Speculator and Silicon Disc. Happy to pay whatever it costs for parts and your labour. Fascinated reading about how the Silicon Disc operates. I see it defaults to Drive 3 under MOS. "The silicon disc ROM patches the followin...

Re: Stuff on eBay

Well, I too was tempted but didn't actually bid on any of these - just as well given the eventual selling prices :o

Re: Minor keyboard problem

Not come across this myself, but my guess is there's an issue with the zero '0' key mechanism not returning quickly enough rather than a faulty space bar. I've found a small spray of contact cleaner has worked for my keyboard in the past and avoided needing to take the keyboard apart. You should be ...

Re: New Purchase

Good buy, Mike.

Other available units seem to be priced upwards of £200 :!:

I see that ink ribbons are still available for this model :)

Thanks for sharing.

Really interesting to see the custom made mount that secures the new smaller PSU!

Re: Does anyone have the Xtal System 5 manual?

System 5 (1985) has DOS version 2 that is faster (using skewed sectors) and allows larger disc formats (up to 786k formatted). In June 1987 System 5 was apparently upgraded to DOS version 2.05. Has anyone come across this upgraded version of the DOS? The COPY.COM supplied with the original System 5 ...

Re: Welcome!

Hi Dean, a warm welcome to the forum. Fascinating to hear that you used an Einstein to develop code for the Amstrad/Spectrum. I thought 'breakintoprogram' sounded familiar, and I realise I've previously used your website (www.breakintoprogram.co.uk) for Z80 opcode reference and enjoyed reading your ...
