Re: TC-01 with Gotek and second drive

My first thought is to configure your system with the Gotek as Drive 1 and Internal as Drive 0 to see if that works correctly. That’s how my system is set up. My system disc stays in Drive 0 as my boot disc and then I can easily access and change DSK images on the Gotek. The Gotek needs no additiona...

Re: TC-01 with Gotek and second drive

They are set either d0 or d1 depending on if I want it as main drive. The other jumper is unchanged and set at the middle position. I am wondering if the Gotek is interfering with the ready signal or something. Since the 3 inch drive works fine with the gotek unplugged using the same cable. There w...

Re: FlexiDOS

Thanks. I'll enjoy having a look at how this alternative DOS is configured :) There are two other ROMS I've come across, but both are recently developed, unlike FlexiDOS. Fabrizio Di Vittorio has developed a diagnostic ROM (2019) to test the firmware of the TC01. The ROM checks the RAM, PSG (AY-3-89...

Re: Help with bad disk

I've also had issues with my old 3 inch discs. There are a few things you can do. It may be your specific drive that has an issue with this particular formatted disc, so sometimes it's worth trying the disc in another machine. The alignment may be out, although if this an original commercial disc th...

Re: BBC Basic Assembler

Thanks for the information. This is most useful.

I was completely unaware of the differences with XBAS.

Consequently, I'm now intrigued to explore BBC BASIC on the Einstein :)

Re: BBC Basic Assembler

Not used BBC Basic on the Einstein so wasn't even aware assembly was possible in BASIC! Fascinating stuff. I had presumed you can always assign any ASCII character (and therefore assign square brackets) to a function key using the KEY command in BASIC. CHR$(91) gives a '[', and CHR$(93) gives a ']'....

Re: FlexiDOS

It doesn't sound like there is any provision to format the disc in Drive 1. So I'm reasonably sure there must be some disc-based formatting software to support FlexiDOS. But I doubt we'll ever locate an accompanying disc :( It's probably not critical as we can use other software to generate the requ...

Re: FlexiDOS

A fairly good guess on my part then! We’re looking at the four possible configurations of 40/80 tracks and single/double sided drives. In the 1980s, quite a few companies starting selling external higher capacity drives - I had both 80 track 5 1/4 inch and 3 1/2 inch drives for my Amstrad 6128 manag...

Re: FlexiDOS

Can't find any reference to this anywhere! Version 2.2 so obviously more than one version out there. And a serial number suggests it's a commercial product. Very interesting. Looks like it might need a formatted disc in Drive 0 to avoid the disc error. I'm guessing the DOS supports other disc format...

Re: Unpublished Einstein Software

Thanks Mike. Certainly some titles here I've not come across previously. I look forward to looking at these games.
