Keyboard

Post by PDW » Sun Jan 22, 2023 11:26 am

Just dug my old Einsteins out of the loft to see if they still work.
Any tips after 30 years of storage?
1st issue is on both computers the keys are not returning when pressed

I have this on my Einstein. It was fully working 6 months ago when i put it up in the loft.

I have a suspicion that the constant temp changes have affected the limited grease that was in the switches. I am going to use switch cleaner on all of mine when I get chance, that should sort it. Or isopropyl alcohol would also work.

As long as you are getting the keys registered when power on there should be nothing else wrong.

I have uploaded a video to youtube on removing and cleaning a key switch.

It might be useful to you?

Yep, I think it will be, but once complete, it should last a fair few more years 😀

Just tried temperature cycling in situ and this makes things a lot better for most keys
