I've seen many Z80 failures; but never causing that color distortions. PSU, if there's too many ripple in the voltage, can cause some video problems and noisy signals.

Sinclair machines have pretty decent caps indeed. I've never seen one with bad caps

I might change the z80 next, which z80s are the best replacements? I've got an sgs z80 in at the moment
