Calling Z88DK experts!

I have been looking at the Z88DK development kit targeting the Tatung Einstein and was wondering if there were any experts out there who could help me get started please?

My original plan was to learn C on my TC01 (so it got some actual use) but that is proving logistically difficult whereas a laptop in the living room is fine.

I’m vaguely ok with C but there are a bewildering array and choices of build options, libraries, information and settings in Z88DK and I have no idea where to start. I have it installed and working and can build a Hello World program that works fine on the Tatty in MAME but want to do something slightly more advanced than that but which would be extremely easy to do in BASIC - put some text on the screen at specific X, Y co-ordinates and also some graphics!
I have found runnable examples of graphics but not x,y plotting of text and no real examples that show any text and graphics together.
