Well, I too was tempted but didn't actually bid on any of these - just as well given the eventual selling prices :o

My guess would be that there was an additional ROM chip installed with specialist software, that has since been removed? This may have needed additions to the standard MOS ROM so a new one was burned.

Scriptomatic UK may have been the company who created the additional ROM? or it could be a hacker group for all I know. No info online at all about them.

There was an an Einstein on eBay a few years ago that had a telephone systems ROM in situ, but the listing did not have a picture of the screen so it is a guess on my part.

Either that or the previous owner ran their own MOS with additional tweaks maybe?

This is very interesting. I too have found nothing as yet on Scriptomatic, but I'll keep looking. So without examining the code in the MOS ROM, it's going to be very difficult to identify exactly how this MOS is different.

It does look as if the usual MOS ROM itself has been patched. 'SE' may stand for 'Special Edition' or possibly 'Scriptomatic Edition'.

I was intrigued enough to look at the MOS code and found that there are three areas in the MOS ROM that hold text.

The locations are:
00ED-0170 ('Insert disc in drive ...', MOS version number and 'Ready' messages)
04B0-04E4 (Drive messages - 'Not Ready', 'Bad Data', 'Protected', 'No Sector)
0E7D-0E9B (*** EINSTEIN *** message with trailing and leading spaces)

So at least two of these areas have been modified - so obviously there may be other modifications too :)

Found this whilst trawling eBay. Not specifically listed as Einstein compatible.

Possbly compatible with other systems, but would look good next to Albert!

Those drives are a nice accessory, I managed to pick up an empty case and put one together
